Yes...I had to do this. ;P In the book she's always saying how she's an explorer, but in the movie she doesn't really clarify that fact that much. But...I still had to try this idea out~ :3

So....I saw Coraline last Monday....and asdfghjkl;asdfghjkl;asdfghjkl; IT'S AMAAAAAZING!!!!!! I love it I love it I love it I love it I love it I love it and I love it so much that I will say I love it some more~~~ >3<

After I read the book, I was nervous that the movie wouldn't be as good as the book, because the book was pretty darn scary. o-o And I wasn't sure how they could measure up to all the metaphors in the book and such....but they managed to pull it off wonderfully, and I LOVE IT!!!! 8DDDD

Ehm.....copyrights? D8

I was never a big fan of Dora the Explorer since I grew out of childhood, I thought her stuff was embarrassing to anyone over the age of eight, but she had her own thing, and both boys and girls liked it equally. Not anymore though, the new Dora is really girly and only cares for fashion.

As for Coraline, it doesn't feel like an embarrassment to watch her story. It just feels more mature. Believe me, there's a fine line between cute whimsy and sheer annoyance and where many other forms of childrens' media fall into the latter category (Dora the Explorer, A Troll in Central Park, etc.) Coraline manages to walk that line like a seasoned veteran.

Oh man, I didn't know they changed Dora! That stinks. She was a nice alternative for young girls and boys who wanted to go on adventures instead of shopping.
Yes, Coraline was really quite a great character, thanks to the fab writers and artists at Laika for bringing the fantastic book character to life. :) I'm happy to see that there are more strong girl protagonists for children to be exposed to through animation, such the newest Disney princesses and even the ponies in the recent My Little Pony show.
